Emotional Intelligence in Schools: Project Team Delivers Advanced Training Session in Lagos
On 21 September 2026, the project Emotional Intelligence Approach on Teaching Methods held a new training event dedicated to strengthening emotional intelligence practices in schools. The short-duration course, titled “Promoting Emotional Intelligence in Schools – from Theory to Practice II”, was organised in collaboration with the CFAE Dr Rui Grácio (Lagos) and brought together educators from different teaching levels and specialised support areas.
This advanced session followed the first ACD delivered in 2025 and was designed to disseminate the project’s results after two years of development, while deepening the practical integration of emotional intelligence in everyday school life. As stated in the official action sheet, the training recognises that “learning is, to a great extent, an emotional process” and therefore aims to help teachers create “emotionally positive, safe and motivating classroom environments that enhance success and well-being.”
A Practical and Reflective Approach
Throughout the three-hour session (18:30–21:30), participants explored strategies to strengthen their own emotional intelligence, experimented with tools applicable to classroom practice, and discussed ways to support pupils’ emotional development. The programme included:
- Personal reflection moments to promote self-awareness and emotional regulation
- Collaborative group dynamics focused on designing emotionally informed pedagogical strategies
- Sharing of practical examples, resources and classroom applications
- Access to digital pedagogical materials through a collaborative platform
- These methodologies reflect the project’s commitment to fostering more human, cooperative and emotionally attuned teaching practices.
Experienced Training Team
The session was led by three specialists from the project consortium:
- Mário Guedes, coordinator of the Erasmus+ project and experienced trainer in digital tools and subject-specific didactics
- Patrícia Almeida, social educator specialising in school mediation and artistic practices for inclusion
- Rita Guapo, school psychologist with extensive experience in socio-emotional education and positive discipline
Their combined expertise ensured a rich, multidimensional perspective on emotional intelligence in education.
Strengthening European Cooperation in Education
This training event reinforces the project’s mission: to support teachers in integrating emotional intelligence into their daily practice, contributing to more inclusive, empathetic and effective learning environments across Europe.
