Chemistry with Emotional Intelligence: Alcohols in Everyday Life

As part of the Erasmus+ project “Emotional Intelligence Approach on Teaching Methods” (Ref. no. 2024–1‑ES01-KA220-SCH-000253249), Chemistry teachers at Liceul Teoretic “Emil Racoviță” Vaslui designed a lesson on alcohols – definition, classification, and nomenclature.

Alongside scientific objectives, the lesson encouraged students to reflect on everyday products containing alcohol and the emotions linked to them. Group activities promoted collaboration, with each team appointing an “emotional supporter” to ensure encouragement and stress management. A final reflection round allowed students to express gratitude and acknowledge peer support.

This innovative integration of science and socio-emotional learning will be part of the OTC materials, offering European teachers practical methods to combine technical knowledge with emotional growth.
