EI implementation at AEGE — Geography
Types and Territorial Structures of Agriculture
A group of Vocational Photovoltaics students, 11º grade, from AE Gil Eanes — Lagos, Portugal, took part in an innovative educational experience that combined environmental literacy with emotional intelligence development. The session explored global agricultural systems and climate- change impacts through powerful visual materials, including contrasting farm images, climate-related videos, and selected scenes from Before the Flood.

Students also engaged with the Time Drivers video featuring Emily Penn, a pregnant environmental activist whose message of responsibility and long- term environmental stewardship resonated strongly with the group. Throughout the activities, students demonstrated increasing awareness of how environmental degradation affects communities, workers, and future generations.

They analysed real- world scenarios, identified emotional responses such as stress, motivation, and resilience, and connected these insights to their own vocational field, where teamwork and responsibility are essential for safety and performance. Group work, map tasks, and visual analysis supported active participation, while structured emotional prompts helped students express reactions in a practical and accessible way. The upcoming forest walk will further reinforce eco- empathy and mindfulness through direct contact with nature.Overall, the experience successfully integrated technical relevance, environmental awareness, and emotional growth, offering students a meaningful and engaging approach to understanding sustainability and their role in shaping a responsible future.
