Sports and Emotional Intelligence
As part of the Erasmus+ project “Emotional Intelligence Approach on Teaching Methods” (Ref. no. 2024–1‑ES01-KA220-SCH-000253249), teachers at Liceul Teoretic “Emil Racoviță” Vaslui designed innovative Physical Education lessons in volleyball and basketball. The main goal was to combine physical activity with the development of emotional intelligence skills.
Students were encouraged to practice teamwork, empathy, and emotional self-control while engaging in dynamic team games. The focus was not only on athletic performance but also on resilience, peer encouragement, and the ability to manage frustration during competition. Reflection activities helped students understand how emotions shape collaboration and motivation.
This approach shows how sports can nurture both physical abilities and social-emotional skills. The lesson and its resources are part of the contribution of LER to the Online Training Course (OTC), offering European teachers examples of how to integrate emotional intelligence into everyday classroom practice.
